1. Yes. It will be some time, but I believe it will be through long distance communications. The biggest danger is the fear of the unknown.
2. Eventually. But it needs to be an international coalition to come up with the message. We should wait until we can really asses the risks.
3. Space sciences are always places I wish to make a contribution. My guess would be that SETI would be one of the underfunded space project. My suggestion is we expand this effort so that other SETI (and evenually, all space science) can take advantage of this cooperative platform. I believe plenty of people would be willing to contribute computing power to science. I would dedicate space, bandwidth and processor cycles.
