Personal background
Hey there. I'm a (Year-1978, as of this writing, 25) year old geek living in Upstate New York.

I spend my days (At least my days that aren't involved working) listening to music (Rock, metal, and blues), reading (A lot of fantasy, science fiction, and historical), gaming (Face-to-face roleplaying mostly, occasionally online, and occasionally a board game, like Illuminati or Talisman), and watching movies.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm sure extraterrestrial life exists, but I'm not sure (Or rather, I'm sure I can't know, at this point) if it's evolved enough to have a civilization, if that civilization would be more advanced than us, or if we would recognize it as such even if it were there to be found.

I'd think we should transmit some kind of signal, something along the ``here we are, come say hi'' lines, but I'd be completely unsure how to go about determining what to put into it. There's no guarantee that any beings that encountered it would understand it for what it was, or would be able to translate it, even if they realized it was of intelligent creation.

I run SETI because of an innate need to be part of something greater than myself. ;)
