Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life definitely exists -- it is pretty ignorant to think that the inhabitants of Earth are the only life-forms out there when science tells us that the universe is endless, and we are just a small insignificant planet in one of many galaxies. That's not to say that it might all just be fungus etc......

I'm not sure about if humans should transmit a beacon for others to find: That would be really great if a group of peaceful aliens chanced upon it and made contact with us, but what about imperialistic aliens bent on universe domination? If we did, we should probably send information about Earth languages, culture, and technology. All of this should be in mathematical form so it is easier for the aliens to understand.

I run SETI@home because I am curious to see what we can find. I also want to be recognized as the person whose computer found evidence of ET.
