Personal background
Facts first: I´m 41 years old, married and have two little children. I live in germany near cologne. My business? To fill the refrigerator, i´m a screendesigner, teacher at multimedia schools, illustrator. For fun (and thats what we´re here for) i´m a cartoonist. My serie "Herman the User" is printed for 17 years now in several computer magazines. In this time i created more than 800 cartoons with him and his friends. But i also created the Ninja-Turkeys, a parody of the Teenage-Mutant-Hero-Turtles (does anybody still know them???) and lots of other figures.
If you´re interested in Ilustrations or cartoons, you can visit my website under www.bihlmeier-kramer.de.
Hobbies? My sweet children, my jobs (digital and with ink and pencils), my wife (just kidding), swimming and astronomy (spending nights in the pyjama on the balkony, just the stars, my telescope and i) and- reading books, mainly science fiction stories. The bookshelf in our bedroom contains nearly 1000 sf-books and a few hundret more of other categories. It looks similar in our livingroom 8-)
The pictures shows my old friend "Hermann the User".
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Thequestion, if extraterrestrial life exists, is really difficult! I´m very interested in nature, physiks, mathematiks, astronomy, and in science. Every month, i love to read the german Verion of "Scientific America". It seems, that both sides, have good arguments for and againt extraterrestrial life, and the probability of a contact IF they exist. I think the answer important - but the fact of searching them. And searching them together with human beings from the whole planet. You know the feeling of being part of a huge community (americans), and i do also (european). With SETI we feel as humans.
Am i afraid of a contact? NO! Really not. If you think of the enormous insert of ressources, that it takes to bridge the giant spaces between the stars, it would be nonsens to risk all thios in intergalactical wars, or such things. If THEY need settlement sites, it would be easier, to take the next planet nearby and to "terraform" it (or what there planet is called). Our fantasies of space intruders are only mirroring our thoughts and our affability.
I think SETI is one of the greatest adventures, the human race can do.
And i hope that you´re not lying laughing on the floor, because i have to consult my german-english dictionary for every second word ;-)
