Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Good idea this seti thing.
I believe in minimal government involvement in all of this countries activities.
However, should the discovery of alien life cause a threat to national security, I would suppose that would consitute finantial involvement. I think the private sector can fund this type of research for the time being with out much trouble. I would chip in a few bucks to see it happen. Why make people who dont believe in it pay taxes to make it happen?
Searching for potenialy globaly distructive asteroids would be another project I would chip in money for (and donate my CPU time to).
Remember the old days when people payed money to get CPU time on the mainframe?
I wonder if there are any old laws that would allow me to write off my cpu cycle donations?
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
