Personal background
Hey,
I'm Eric. I'm a student from UMASS Amherst. I am a computer science major, and I hope to minor in astronomy, with possibilities of branching into math or education. I've always been into astronomy, and space related things since I was little when I would build model rockets with my dad. So I guess that is where my interest in SETI stems from, plus, I have a kick-a$$ computer that has a few CPU cycles to spare.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that E.T.'s exist out there, we just haven't found them yet. I'm definitely a fan of the the movie Contact, and it's philosophy of the universe being an awful waste of space if there isnt. As for us transmitting a beacon to help them find us; I think we already do, and I think that beacon(t.v., radio, etc.) is a good beacon because I think it is a good cross section of our culture. Lastly, I run Seti@Home because I used to leave my computer on doing nothing all day, and now it does something, plus I am very interested in astronomy, so put two and two together, and you get SETI.
