1) I think there is other life out there. Whether it is intelligent life I do not know. Perhaps Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes fame said it best - "Sometimes I think the surest sign that there is intelligent life out there is that it hasn't tried to contact us yet!"
2) We already transmit a beacon on a hundred plus different channels 24 hours a day with all of the braodcasts for radio, tv and other communication going on. If they are intelleigent they will discover more about us from our everyday goings on then we could ever hope to tell them in a very specific beacon.
3) I run it because at least all of the computer power I have doesn't go to waste during the time I'm not utilizing it. I think the project is very unique and joins us together in a way that other attempts never could. |
