Personal background
My name is Darren Pope, I am 21 years old. I am a stud-ent at Westminster College, Mo. I am currently majoring in MIS and CS and have not declared a minor yet, but I am interested in religion and philosophy as well as astronomy. I breakdance for fun... and I enjoy cool summer days and warm winter nights. :)

I am in theater as well.. I was planning on going to graduate school to further my acting abilities at WIU. Maybe.. maybe not. Sounds fun, but with the innovations and such with computers, if I leave the game for three years, I wont find a job when I am finally done with school.. that is, if acting doesn't produce and I need to fall back on something.

Computer: built it myself.. with what terribly little money I make.

1.4 GHz AMD Athlon Thunderbird, MB-a7a266 with 256 DDR. Currently running Windows 2000.. not terribly impressed... thought they said it was gonna crash less. They need to make a little machine for all windows users that automatically presses ctrl alt del.

So that is my life.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it is ludicrous to think that there is not intelligent life outside our own. If you think about it, there is billions upon billions of galaxies with billions upon billions of stars in them. All it takes is one star with one rock that is the right distance away. Life finds a way after that, it did for us.

Here's the thing; I sincerely doubt that we have been visited by ET. I just dont think that intelligent life would spend years in flight and then probe an unsuspecting trailer inhabitant then go blow up cows. See the pretty designs in the fields our visitors left? HAHAHAH

I hope we do find it. I don't know how we would react to it, but I hope we do find it. I think a lot of people would blow it way out of proportion... ie the National Inquirer and it's lackeys. You could almost bet that there would be a "new age" religion to validate this finding... and christians (example), those that say, "if it isnt in the Bible, it didn't happen" (i'm pretty sure there isn't anythign about ET in there) would revoke the information totally. IT'S SATAN'S WORK!!! *snicker*

It would definitely bring about changes in society in the way that we think and what our goal as a whole is... right now it is be number one and blow up those that get in the way.. go america woooh. Perhaps it would help the world determine a common goal. (those interested anyway.)

I like what we sent in the 70's.. I think it was in the 70's. That binary code that showed what we (basically) looked like among other things. Not to mention that we have already been sending radio waves for the past 100 years.. think about this one, almost the first thing that they are gonna hear is Hitler's ranting. If they start at the beginning that is. I think they will enjoy the I Love Lucy shows though... WHO DOESN'T LIKE THAT SHOW!?!?

Peace
