Profile: ShadowRanger

Personal background
I'm a 20 year old college student from the D.C. area, who will be attending the Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall. I'm a role-playing gamer, specifically 7th Sea, D&D 3rd, Shadowrun 3rd, and numerous others that I own but do not currently play. I previously worked for Games Workshop and have attended a year of Montgomery College. I own two cats and two dogs, despite having a mild allergy to all of them. Eh. They're too cool to just give away.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Personally, I'm pretty sure extra-errestrial life exists, and at some point we will encounter it. Course, I highly doubt that it will be in our lifetime, or by something as simple as the SETI program, but I figure that hedging our bets is always a good idea. I don't think much about the possible benefits or dangers since it is most likely that any aliens we encounter would be too dissimilar to deal with in an effective way. I think of it as more like taking advanced Calculus for Computer Science majors. The Calculus is unnecessary for the rest of the major, but it proves that you are capable of higher thought. Similarly, SETI is proving that humanity is capable of more than just rote survival.
