Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
This is a fantastic use of under utilized computer resources. Basic fundemental statistics leads reasonable people to conclude that life exists on other planets and or solar systems. what form that life takes only time and future contacts with them will tell. If we don't try to make contact, we will never know what is out there. It is basic human nature to explore, to "see what's around the corner". I think it is a biological imperative to fullfill that curiousity (its in the genes).
I run SETI@home so that I can help find who is out there and to hopefully make contact with them. I think the project is very worthwhile, and is a very efficient use of computing resources and astronomical data that has been collected over the years. The project needs to be expanded, and a complete survey should be undertaken so that we can know with certainty who is out there. |
