Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have had Seti@Home since the beginning, and it's running from my three computers, as long as they can. I hope that this project will help in finding out that we are no alone here, and that maybe, just maybe, we can some day make some friends beyond this planet. If we do start making friends out there, we must be intelligent enough not to intervine in the life of others, for we might do irreperable harm to others or even to ourselves. The way humanity is going, it has a great future, but it can be marred if we treat others indifferently. Let's find friends, but maybe putting a beacon can be more harm than good, since we could influence upon another culture to the point that we could cause mass histeria. Remember that we are still locked in this planet, and we are still learning how to accept each other. Are we really ready to accept others besides us humans? Maybe we need to grow up a little more. But how long? Maybe as long as it takes to find a friend and be able to greet them without shooting first.
