Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm sure SETI will eventually discover Intelligent Life out there, and I believe it will happen in 2013. Unfortunately I suspect communicating with ET will take so long that it may exceed my life span. I hope my children can benefit from such communication. Those benefits would include trade and enrichment of knowledge. Dangers could include malignant forces.

Humans should not transmit a beacon for others to find. Only those secure in their galactic survival should broadcast their location. We should just look for those others. Though we are probably broadcasting enough from our commercial communications for ET to see himself!

I run Seti@home because I want to see the Human race expand into space to improve the chance of survival of the species. Being based on one planet provides too much risk. SETI@HOME could help this aim if ET is helpful. Though there is a chance ET's aims could be to just exploit Humans, which is why I'm reluctant on the issue of a transmission beacon.
