Profile: Pete Handleson

Personal background
Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii. My name is Peter Handleson. I am the webmaster for the web site http://hawaii-pineapple.com. I am creating what I hope to be the most informative web site on the internet dealing with Hawaii and travel related items. We have just introduced a new feature which allows our visitors the opportunity to post fiction and non fiction stories and articles on our web site. We need stories an articles from anyone, professional or not, to submit their individual stories.

Thge web site also is a wonderful vacation planner for those wanting to vacation in Hawaii. There are links to all the major airlines that service Hawaii, 80% of all hotels in Hawaii, attractions in Hawaii and all kinds of information not normally found on a web site of this type.

My life is wrapped up in three things. First, my wife Nanci. She comes first in everything I do and say. We have been married for almost 20 years. She is my inspiration and makes each day a wonderful experience. Second is Hawaii. I love these islands and wonder what took me so long to finally come here and live. That love of the islands has spawned number three, my web site. I am so addicted to making this site successful, I spend as many as 20 hours per day tweaking on it and adding new features and fixing mistakes I made in the construction of the various pages of the web site.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Answers

1. Of course there is life in space. Has humanity become so brash as to think we might be alone in this vast Universe?

2. It can't hurt. If we are serious about contact an alien species out in the vast universe we should make it as easy as pie for them to find us, if they don't know we exist.

3. There are few things in this world that an unkown, non prodessional person who has little skills to offer society can do to make a difference that is completely free. Since I don't have a lot of money I can offer only what few meager resources I have. My computer would sit idle for hours on end when I am not using it. Why not put that time to productive use. There is always the possibility that in one of those work units transmitted to me from SETI at Home there lies the message that all of man kind has been yearning to find. Perhaps my sole purpose in life is to be the one that processes the work unit with an intelligent message from some where deep in the Universe.
