Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It seems obvious to me that there is extra terrestrial (intelligent) life. How errogant we would have to be to not believe that. I am not sure we will discover it as much as they will allow us to discover them. I think that there will be many benefits from sociology to technology. The thing that concerns me is that a discovery could be a major change in the way "people" think (a great quote from the movie "MIB" - a person is smart, but "people" tend to be stupid and panicy). If we do transmit a broadband beacon, it should contain some simple common elemental information, that is repeated. I run Seti@Home because this is something that I would like to be involved in WHEN a discovery is made.
