Profile: Brett Drozic

Personal background
I am 42 and live in Wilkes-Barre, PA (located in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania). I was employed in the Product Development department of a material handling and storage manufacturer for 14 years, until a workforce reduction caused my lay-off. While in product development, I obtained one U.S. Patent and learned about the inter-relationships of engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and sales within a company. Since my severance, I've decided to finish the course work for a degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). I also served 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from high school, so I'm proud of all the men and women serving in our Armed Forces; especially in the turbulence of our world today.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I read about SETI@home in an article in the Tuesday section "Science Times" of the The New York Times. I think what intrigued me was my memory of a show on PBS about 20 years ago called "Cosmos", hosted by the late Dr. Carl Sagan. He had a passionate belief that there was a possibility of life outside our little orbiting satellite. I still remember him saying that the "stuff of life" was in most early planetary environments, and this was proven through experiments at Cornell and other universities. I came to respect Dr. Sagan's dream of someday meeting other life forms, so if my computer can be used to help further this cause, then I'm happy to donate the processor time. I'm not familiar with the founders or responsible members of SETI, but I commend them for taking the time to not only dream a dream, but also fulfill that dream.
