Personal background
Personal:
I'm 43 years old, male, from a small town at the river Danube in the north of Munich (Bavaria-Germany). I'm married with a pretty wife since 22 years and we have 2 sons (22/17). Currently I'm working as Manager technical services at an international company, but, I'm the owner of a small computer company, too. Additionaly to my job, I have studied some years informatics at the university.
Interests:
Mostly, I'm working hard and travelling a lot and it remains only short time for hobbies. I'm interested in learning (every day some new), to see and understand more. At home, I spend the most time with the computer (My wife is sometimes angry about). Other interests are fast cars (Normal for Germans) and motorbike (I'm glad to have both) and, last but not least, good music (Live and on CD) and art. I have very versatile interests/hobbies and can't list them all. Sorry, I forgot the cat "ALF".
Computers:
AMD 1GHz/256MB and Laptop PIII-600/128MB.OS:W98/2000. Both are implemented in a network together with another AMD 1GHz/512MB (including RAID, switch, streamer, server, ADSL,...)
How did I found out about SETI@Home?
Last year, I have seen a very interesting story at TV about it and later on, I got more information on the web. At that day, I have downloaded the client and run it on every computer, I get in my hands. On every? No. But on the most.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why do you run SETI@Home?
I was very fascinated from the first second I have heard about it and I want to be a member of the world largest science network. I believe, that someone will be out there. Stupid, who think we are the one and only and the highest creatures in the universe. The big question will only be answered, if we all help to find out and satisfy our curious. To run SETI@Home is a small part I can give back the society. It's a human act for international understanding, it's a philosophy.
Thoughts about ET
Yes, I think there must be someone. Not countable stars, and we are alone? No! But who is there?
In the most films ET looks like an human. Maybe. But it's also possible, they still live on trees (and can't hear us) or they live on a higher level, only spirit, and they don't want to hear us. Who knows. They could co-exist with us or be dangerous, e.g. the film "Independant day" (Nice food). We only get an answer, if we have contact. No risk, no fun.
But what will happen, if we find a signal? What information we will get?
NOTHING!
We can send a signal. Nice, but what information we will send? Slaughter, sheeps waiting? News from the daily soap? Joke of the week? Or our knowledge of technololgy?
We can send a signal and wait 100 or 1000 years to get as an answer YES, NO or HA,HA... If ET has an very high technology level, why do we think we will get benefits? If ET is dangerous, they have no interest to give us hightech weapons. Need slaves guns? And if ET is friendly, they are also not interested and will bypass the earth. By looking from outside to our history and planet, they see war, hate, betrayal, polution... All the nice things, friendly doesn't like. Does Caesar gave Brutus the knife? No! Mankind is waiting since more than 2000 years for some to help us out of the shit. First, we must help ourself. Maybe then, if something has changed, we will get the FIRST CONTACT with the good ones.
So, let's search for ET. It's our chance.
