Personal background
I was born in upstate New York, but moved to California at 15. Served as a Military Policeman for the Army and stationed in Germany for 2 years. Returned to California then moved to Arizona where I am today. I graduated high school but never completed even the first year of college. I am the father of 3 children, all boys, all them attempting to drive me insane. My time is devoted to caring for them and my computer toys. When I first started Seti@Home under a different account it would take me about 24 hours to complete a unit. I'm down to around 4 and loving it :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I truly believe that extraterrestrial life does exist. In my opinion, which apparently several others with much higher educations than mine have copied, it is improbable for us to believe we are sole intelligent inhabitors of this vast universe. As we are learning on a continual basis, nature and science have a way of coexisting and thriving in even the most inhospitable of surroundings. Keeping that in mind it becomes quite obvious that we really have NO idea what is out there in the (once again) vast universe. Therefore, in keeping with the values our parents taught us, we should probably steer away from conceited thoughts of "intelligent domination" of the universe. We have always been a race of explorers but as we currently lack the ability to reach these far off places personally, we need programs such as Seti@home as well as others to reach out. In my opinion (yet again) our signals should be intelligent and receptive, but not reveal an overt amount of information about our technologies and limitations. While I am clearly a proponent of extending our hand and announcing ourselves to our galactic neighbors, I hardly think it prudent to alert them to the fact that we're ripe for the picking... just in case their motivations and intentions are not exactly neighborly. I will subject you to my own opinion yet again, but for the last time by declaring that I personally believe we will someday discover that we are nothing but a virus that has thrived on a partially muscus covered dust particle which has been blown into a tissue and discarded by some ET with a cold.
