| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I'm in an Astronomical Group in Bern. Every Friday one member is having a presentation about a astronomical theme. In 1999 theme SETI@HOME was presentated. I thought: "Good idea this project" and searched on the web for the seti@home-page. I downloaded the seti@home client and since then I'm a lucky seti@home user.
The SETI programm is for me a great project and i find it a very good idea to link lots of computers in the whole world to get a huge adding-machine.
I believe there are other civilizations out in the space, but i'm not sure if they're more or less keen in technologics than we. For me there exists 2 types of civilizations:
1. a civilization like in the Middle Ages or
2. a civilization like in the films Star Wars etc.
But if they send signals and we received them, then we know that someone is out there. Flying to them is with our technical stand not yet possible, but a communication with them is like travelling to them. We could exchange technological informations with them to upgrade each other.
That would be great!!! |
