Personal background
I'm a webmaster at a small Community College. I think, to quote Nena from 99 Luftballons, "Everyone's a Captain Kirk, with orders to identify, to clarify, and classify."
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
ET Life exists and it should discover us in the next 100 years if it hasn't already. I doubt there will be any benefits or dangers out of the ordinary if considering our past track record of 1st contact with other races here on earth applies.

I don't think we need to transmit a beacon of any kind as we seem to have already cluttered up the stars with our radio pollution.

I run SETI@home because I want to help. I believe it is one of the most worthwhile projects around. Some may scoff, but the world used to be flat at one time didn't it?
