Profile: Big Jeff

Personal background
I live in central Canada where the summers get hot but the winter cold makes up for it in spades! I am married and am a father to a wonderfully musically gifted 8 year old boy and a 4 year old girl who could give the Energizer Bunny a run for his money. I am a remote control expert and instructor in the transportation industry. I have been computing and using the internet since before the letters "GUI" were ever strung together. I've been a photography buff since my mid-teens and enjoy the hobby even more with the advent of high-resolution digital imaging and digital video. I've always been a sci-fi nut and make it a point to see every new Star Trek movie, and to at least give each new sci-fi TV show one or two viewings.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
ET is out there. Although I enjoy my sci-fi, I just don't think he's going to look anything like a Klingon. I figure we'll find some evidence of advanced life elsewhere in the universe though an effort like SETI's. However, things like warp speed and wormholes are probably just fiction and we will likely not make actual physical contact with another species. Call me a party-pooper, but I think Hollywood has made too many dreamers - physics as we know it just doesn't support the idea of intergalactic travel. :{

In the meantime, I can't thing of a better use to put my unused CPU cycles than to help in the hunt for other intelligent life in the vast reaches of space.
