Profile: Rich Fought

Personal background
I'm a 30 year old married engineer from Destin, Florida, USA. My background is aerospace and in my career I've worked on interplanetary spacecraft. I've always been fascinated by astronomy and marvelled at the size and scope of the universe we live in.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Just considering the mathematical probabilities, there has to be some other form of life out there. It is just a matter of time and chance of discovering and contacting it. The possibilities are endless, and so are the consequences. Besides what the impact is on Earth, I think that we really have to take a hard look at ourselves as a planet and think what impact we would have on the other life form. Just as explorers to the new world brought devastating disease to the natives, such considerations must be made on the societal level. If humans can't get along with themselves, how would we get along with an extraterrestrial society? What would make them want to contact us?

Carl Sagan is one of my heroes, and I consider this project a tribute to him, and a tribute to the kind of world-wide cooperation that is possible with computers and the internet.
