Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I think extraterrestrial life exists. They will reveal themselves shortly before the final destruction of the planet. They'll wave goodbye, saying "So long, and thanks for all the fish" -- Or something like that.
It'd be foolish to think that the human race is alone in this vast universe. The real question is will the human race survive long enough to finally meet these extrarrestial life-forms out in the open and in full disclosure.

Should we transmit a beacon for others to find? No, why bother? We've been sending T.V. signals out into space for decades, we haven't stopped yet. Besides how do we know we would not attract a space-faring species that did not have our best interests in mind? Did you ever see that Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man"? Sorry folks, Kanamit's are not welcome here.

Why do I run SETI@home? I suspect that we might identify signals not dissimilar to the T.V. signals we started transmitting back in the 1950's, and by a species not very different from ourselves. We'll never know unless we look.
