Personal background
Just some guy from Michigan USA. Like computers, astronomy, space travel, hiking, camping, biking and movies. I work as a systems administrator. Married with one daughter. She says she wants to grow up to be a scientist.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't know if there is extraterrestrial life. I do know that we'll never find out if we don't look. Curiosity is what drives us and makes us better. We may be way off using the criteria we are, but at least we can say we tried.

What happens if we find someone? I don't think that we'd have any sort of "War of the Worlds". What would be the point? Perhaps it would spur us on to move out into space.

Whether we've wanted to or not, we've made our existence known to the universe. We've been broadcasting in the EM band for nearly 100 years. Even if we decided on a beacon, what parameters would we use?

I run SETI@home for several reasons. I'm interested in astronomy and computers and I'm proud to be able to participate in research of this type. Even if we never find a signal, we're helping to change computer science.
