Personal background
The antenna pictured above is part of the VLBA (Very Long Baseline Array)
and is located on Kitt Peak in Arizona. I took this picture on my
last visit there several years ago.

I am a software engineer in Denver, CO, born in Colorado Springs, CO.
I have always had an interest in Astronomy/Cosmology and spent
many nights as a child staring at the sky wondering what was out there and
and looking at as much as I could with my telescope. My aim was to
become an astronomer or cosmologist, but I eventually went on to be
an engineer. I used to see people at work running Seti@Home as thier
screen saver, but I never gave it much thought then. Since I have had
more time on my hands lately and put a new main board in one of my many
slow computers, I started looking into processing some of the
data. I upgraded top a pentium 3 1GHz system and started processing
data for Seti on it. Later I dug up an old IBM aptiva and replaced
the mainboard in it with a newer one, an Athlon 1.4GHz with DDR memory,
installed Linux on it, and started processing a work unit every 5 hours.
So, then I set up the old main boards and put minimal linux on those and they
are processing WUs now too, along with an old laptop and my new laptop.
I found a really old Pentium 100 MHz laptop with 16MB of memory and could not
process WUs on it, so I use that to run SetiQueue. I am currently processing
12-15 WUs a day.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The odds are there is some life out there somewhere, and the odds are
some of it is more advanced than we are. We have already been transmitting a beacon
with all of the radio signals have been escaping the earth since the
early 1900's. I run SETI@Home to help out with the search, and even though I just got
started recently, I may still be the one that runs accross "the" signal.
I look forward to beginning to process data from new telescopes and covering a larger
area of the sky.
