Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I firmly believe extraterrestrial life exists; and there is some evidence to support, or at least keep alive, that theory. Maybe not intelligent life, but we'll never know (or at least not for some extended period of time) unless we are actively looking for it.

I think the knowledge that there are/were other beings in the universe on our level (biological --by some definition at least--, intelligent, inquisitive, etc.) would be a huge step for humans. Sure, it won't get us anything tangible and won't solve our problems, but doesn't imagnining that have profound affects on *your* mind? I think it would have profound affects on the worlds' minds.

It would be nice to be able to say "We are not alone" and have it ring of something more that the X-Files ;-) I think that sentiment is more common that most people think, because many people don't actually think about it, and is more deeply rooted than most people are willing to admit.

I hope evidence that we share this universe would have benificial effects on our ability to share this planet. I hope that evidence that alien life exists would profoundly affect our philosophies: even if they never know we exist and/or we never meet, hopefully knowing that intelligent beings exist who know/care nothing for "God and Country" would open our minds (not to bash God or country... that is fine, just don't bash anyone elses head in with it :->)
