Personal background
I'm currently a student at UVA in my third year. My major is math, and my minor which I've finished is astronomy. The most interesting class I can say I've ever taken here is a course called "Life Beyond the Earth" which is what got me interested at SETI@home in the first place. I'm a crazy human being... I have decent grades, I was in drama and choir in high school, I ride a motorcycle, and I have a summer job as a park ranger.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I really have no idea if extraterrestrial life exists, but if it does I would REALLY REALLY LOVE to find it! I am a huge dork when it comes to this topic, it's one of my favorites! I don't think there's much of a risk for us if we do come in contact with other beings... and if there is well, that's just the way it goes. :) I think over all though chances of hostile intergalactic encounters are slim, and it could help many of us to feel less alone in the universe... I know it would help me to know we have some company!
