I am 37 from the USA. I work as a lab tech and do network administration for a small company.
I have at least three computers running SETI@home at all times. I have these systems on all the time anyway and felt that it was a real waste to have the processors sitting idle.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think in is certain that life exists elsewhere, but I doubt that life advaces far enough to contact each other very often. That does not mean we should not try. The implications to our religions and how we veiw ourselves would change dramatically if we were able to find life elsewhere.
I think that brodcasting a becon would be a waste of time. Which way to point it? Our TV and radio are already brodcasting our presence. I think it is much more likly that any brodcast SETI eventually finds will not be intended as a beacon at all. It will probably be their Beverly Hillbillys show.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
