Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I find it hard to believe that God made the WHOLE universe just for us to look at through telescopes. Either we have company, or we are destined to 'expand'. I think everyone should give there computer's idle time to the SETI@HOME program. Wonderful idea. And builds teamwork.

Humans as a whole are N.O.T. NOT ready for company yet. We would be totally wigged out and overwhelmed by an authenticated visit from 'others' or 'E.T.s. Because of our current nature, we would either worship them or despise them. We have a bit of a prejudice problem even when dealing with other humans.

On the other hand, if the E.T.s are experienced and benign, we might experience the unity of humanity that only the presence of non-human sentients could bring about.

I see the long term picture as...
1) Either humans learn to work together and pool our resources, skills, and knowledge to get off this starter kit world (Earth) and expand into the vertually limitless expance of our universe PROFITABLY, or
2) We will use up our very limited environment and perish within a finite period of time.
3) Alternately, our numbers will have to deminish to such that we no longer strain our finite eco-system. And then, we will no longer have the 'power' or the 'surplus' to leave.
