I work for ABB in the United States as a software development manager. I have access to many kinds of computers and operating systems. I've run setiathome on Intel processors from 100mhz to SMP 1.2GHz, also on HP-PA RISC and Alpha chips. My home computer is a dual Intel 933Mhz system running Redhat Linux 7.2 and Win XP.
I've also contributed to the Folding@Home project.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI has interested me since I was a teenager with the Voyager II spacecraft. My favorite book about extraterrestrials and SETI is, of course, Contact by Carl Sagan--the BOOK not the MOVIE. I also love the Rama series. I'm sure there is extraterrestrial life and certainly more intelligent life. But I doubt we'll contact anyone in our lifetimes. Nevertheless I run SETI@home to do my small part.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
