Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extra-terrestrial life? Strange question. Being that I am here and participating it would seem strange if I said I did not believe it exists. Well here is my stance: I cannot comprehend if human life were the only intellgent life in this universe, and conversely, I cannot comprehend that if there were other life we have not made contact by now....

I participate with SETI because I feel it is a noble effort and any way I can assist is gratifying. I only pray that if we do find other life that the contact is handled properly. Humans have made many mistakes with contacts of 'alien' (read: different) civilzations.

Should we (or SETI)send a beacon? Hmm. No. I feel that everyone should target their tasks and abilities as directionally as possible. SETI's group as I understand it, was formed on the basis of Searching. (otherwise it might have been CETI or TETI or somthing else...) Searching is what they do.

Archaeologists look for ancient artifacts - they do not set out to leave their own artifacts for future archaeologists, they look and infer from their discoveries. If others take that information and decide to leave a time capsule - that is probably their forte.

Now that I have babbled a little too much - I should stop before you get the wrong idea about me....
