Personal background
Hello everybody!!

Hi, my name is Erik, and I am a 25 year old german guy. I study physics in the fifth year, and I hope to be finished soon.
I have been following SETI@home quite some time, but could only start to participate about two years ago, when I got my first PC with internet access.

My biggest hobby is music. I had piano lessons for many years, and I also started to play guitar some years ago. Music is very important for me, and I always find that there is the right music for every time and every mood.
My other hobby is volleyball. I already started to play quite early, but did not really get the hang of it untill about five years ago when some of my best friends also started playing volleyball.

This should be enough for now.

cheers to all SAH partiicpants and to the rest of the world

Erik
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

Well, what to say about SETI. I think it is a very good thing to do, even though the chances to find something are quite low. But why not try anyhow.

What about us being alone in the universe. Well I can't say anything brilliantly new about this. Many people already said, that it is very unlikely, that earth is the only planet in this whole wide universe that developed life on its surface(or below).

I think the consequences of the discovery of other lifeforms in the universe would have a major impact on mankind. It would be the biggest revolution in our selfestimation since the Copernican revolution. Since these days, earth is no longer the center of the universe, but if we would discover other inteligent lifeforms, we would have to say goodbye to the attitude, that we are still the "crown of creation". I think that some would be some very happy and exited about the opportunities to come while others would be shocked, confused.

I think we should keep on trying, so let's get it on!
