Profile: John & Monique Shannon

Personal background
Hello my name is Robert William John Shannon, to distingush myself from all the other John or Robert Shannon's out there. The reason for the long name is that my Father was called Robert, and my mothers Father was called William, and both parents wanted to call me John.

I live in New Zealand - but like most New Zealanders travel a lot, especially to Asia. I have had an interest in computers since my last year at Secondary School in 1980. We had the opportunity to start at the begining with ALGOL-W and punch cards, being processed at our local computer bureau operator Databank Systems as it was called then. A degree in Computer Science followed along with another degree in Earth Sciences in case the 1st degree could not find me long term employment. As it has happened I've never been out of work for long in the last 20 years, and have worked all around the world in a variety of computing diciplines, and am still amazed that I can get paid for having fun !!

For the last 8 years I've been working for EDS New Zealand Ltd, as a network engineer designing and implementing CISCO based networks and security systems.

Hobbies include Computers, Digital PDA's, Marklin Railways, Christian Music.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Our Universe is so unbelievibly huge - I remember National Geographic put out a wall map showing the size of the Universe a few years ago and being in awe of the hugeness of it all. Life therefore must exist somewhere else in the Universe.

I am a born-again Christian - and believe that as with us, the fauna and flora are all perfect in form and function, i.e. were created rather than evolved. However I am also a scientist - so it is possible that there has been some evolution of form and function.

God is huge too - and certainly not limited to this Earth. Jesus Christ was born here as a man, but he is one with God as is the Holy Spirit.

Anyway knowing the power of Good and Evil and being able to access this power through the Holy Spirit in another dimension, we cannot therefore think that what we see is the only dimension.

How many dimensions are there ? Many probably ?
