Personal background
I am a 40 year old single father of two, grandfather of one from Ohio. I am a Sci-Fi fan and a music lover. I built this PC to give me something to do now that the girls are grown. My hobbies are listening to music, reading, writing, playing video games and online gaming. I go to Sci Fi/Fantasy conventions in my area when I get the chance. Look for me at MarCon and The Dover Peace Conference in Ohio each year. I'd put a picture up, but I want people to keep coming back to these sites, not hide at the site of me...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think there is life on other planets. I can't imagine the universe having just one planet capable of sustaining life. I have no idea when or how we'll discover our brothers from above. I think we'll find out a lot about ourselves and our origins when we make contact.
I think our planet sends plenty of signals as it is. I doubt anyone could miss us, although I'm sure some would avoid us. We are a loud and disruptive bunch of people down here.
I supported SETI through donations in the past and just fell out of the loop after moving several times. I decided that I could move to a more proactive stance now that I'm older and less active, if that makes any sense. I have always admired the forward thinking people who started SETI and I think it's time for the governments of the world to funnel some more money their way. After all, this is a very good cause to support.
