Profile: Ron Adhikari

Personal background
I was born in India, and came here to the U.S. at the age of 3. I'm 26 years of age, have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and am presently working as a software engineer. I consider myself an avid reader of fantasy and science fiction/non-fiction, and an amateur (wishes he was a lot better and more disciplined :-) guitar player.

I'm using a home Pentium-III 866 MHz desktop, with 384 MB RAM, running Windows ME.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm very inspired by the challenges the SETI program seeks to overcome in the search for intelligent life outside our planet. The fact that SETI@home has garnered millions of people to contribute to that cause, speaks well for mankind as a whole. I think that should intelligent extra-terrestrial life be discovered (and I think it will, although perhaps not in my lifetime), it would provide a unifying force for human beings. My own hope is that it would alleviate the unfortunate tendency for a subset of our population to cause harm to others, and would force us to recognize that the differences in our systems of beliefs and principles are not as greatly disparate as we are wont to think...and that ultimately, our individual perceptions of right and wrong are just that (perceptions only), and not fundamental or universal truths/axioms.
