| I'm from St. Louis Missouri. I went to Parkway Central High School. I graduated from Truman State University last may with a degree in Biology. I got married over the summer. I am currently 22 and a grad student at University of Missouri Columbia. I am studying Science Education and one day hope to teach high school biology. My hobbies include mountain biking and home beer brewing. |

I obviously believe life on other planets exists. Considering the sheer size of the universe and the number of stars and galaxies, it seems mathematically impossible that life exists nowhere else. Considering the age of the universe, it also seems unlikely that intelligent life would not exist elsewhere. Where or not these other civilizations have the capability to contact or visit us, I can't say. I don't honestly believe they would even want to, considering our current confused and warlike state. If they are out there, they'll probably wait until our civilization maintains some sort of balance. It's simply too dangerous for them to make their presence known right now. But maybe...
I participate in SETI because I truly believe that the discovery of intelligent life in the universe could be the salvation of mankind. It could take an event that monumental to force humanity to "wake up" and forget their petty disputes and prejudices. People are completely absorbed in themselves and their personal struggles, and the realization that there is something bigger than them, something more important, is the only thing that can snap them out of their selfishness. |
