Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The possibility of other life, be it intelligent or otherwise, is always a possibility. I don't think we will discover it soon, but if the human race manages to survive its current problems, lets hope we learn from our mistakes and subject no other lifeforms to our petty rivalries.
We don't really need to send any beacons. TV has been broadcasting at significant strength for 50 years or so, therefore to produce a specific signal would only confuse any intelligencies who had already recieved our previous signals. Also in which direction would we send the beacon. If it was to be omnidirectional then a very powerful transmitter would have to be used.
I run SETI@home because I am helping fellow scientists crunch data that would take SETI on its own years to trawl through.
