Personal background
I wanted to start runing SETi back in 96 but my poor old 486 wouldnt err couldnt handel it, however in 1999 when i got a celeron 400 I was able to start cranking out units at 60 hours.. which I have just now gotten down to a respectable 16 average hours thanks to the slow PoS that celeron is, cource now with a sweeet 1.2Ghz athlon I can finish a unit in under 8 hours, however cuse im a avid gamer and constantly useing the cpu for various things I usually finish around the 12 hour mark, anywhos Im well over the 500 mark and i guess one day Ill be on the top of the list... yea right! ;P
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. yes, however considering the size of the universe and the properties of psysics the possibility of accually communicateing with other life is next to imposible, but still there is reason enough to suport SETI to confirm the exsistance of inteligent life other than our own

2. no, any life forms out there would be able to pick up any number of transmissions from our planet so a beacon wouldnt be nessisary besides it would take eons to reach even the other side of the galaxy so it would be pointless
