Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@Home mostly because it is exploring the engineering methods to implement massively parallel computation. I believe this is the future for all serious computer work, and SETI is just a good warmup.

I do expect we will find intelligence outside our little world, but I don't think we, as a race, are really prepared to understand or appreciate its significance. I don't think humanity has a broad enough grasp of the possible forms that intelligent life might take. Our own activity here on Earth makes that clear to me.
