Personal background
First off I am 21 years young and I live in Colorado in the United States of America. I have been interested in computers since my dad brought home our first IBM. He introduced me to SETI@Home almost two years ago now and I was thrilled at the idea but unable to participate because we only had one computer with internet access. Now however I have my own PC with it's own internet and my very own SETI Client ^o^. It just feels great to be part of such a huge community all joining together for the same cause. Anyways, Have a good day and keep watching the stars!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Well most of my opinions are listed above so lets just answer these Questions shall we ^_^
1.Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
I DO believe life exists out there. Look at the diversity of the life on earth, how can we say it is limited to just this one tiny spec in the universe?
We will discover it when we discover it ^_^ but with all the people participating with SETI@Home it will be easier to discover.
Exploration and science always involve danger, if you don't take any risk then you never do anything new.
2.Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?
Yes, definately. If we are looking for radio transmissions from another planet then why not send out our own and increase the possibility of someone hearing US!
What information? Hmmm, well it sounds cheesey but I think "Contact" had a good idea with the prime numbers. Anything really that would prove to another race that we ARE intelligent.
3.Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?
I am a Science Fiction nut and this is a great way for me to help in a project I have been interested in for some time now.
I think it is excellent and a wonderful way to solve some of the issues about not being able to listen to enough of the sky.
The only suggestion I have is maybe make the tranfering of WU's to a disconnected machine a little more convenient. I have two PC's here that could be put to good use running SETI but no modems and now way to connect them makes it difficult to get them to help.
