Profile: James Wilkinson

Personal background
I work for the United States Federal Aviation Administration as a Supervisory Aviation Safety Inspector. I am [currently] 53 years old and single. In addition to being a full-time Federal employee, I am a graduate student in liberal studies with a deep interest in natural science. I currently live in Anchorage, Alaska, where, each winter, I witness the wonders of the Aurora Borealis. That phenomenon is truly one of the wonders of our planet.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Though I do not believe there is what we would consider intelligent extraterrestrial life anywhere other than Earth, I do believe there is life and completely support the SETI@home project. As a graduate student with an interest in natural sciences, I do what I can to expand my knowledge in that area. I run SETI mostly because I want to be part of a project to interpret any data received from space, no matter what the source, now and in the future. I'm certain that, as our knowledge and technologies increase, we will find useful purposes for our data analysis. My guess is we won't find anything like human signals, but I am not prepared to limit my participation to what I understand now. I'm also not sure that transmitting radio signals for others to find will be of much value because I don't believe there are others to find those signals.
