Personal background
I am a Technical Solution Designer for IBM GSA, involved in varying areas of networking, communications and security.
I live in Sydney Australia, home of the 2000 Olympics - "The Best Games Ever" - and am very passionate about my country and it's people.
Lots of people claim to live in the best country in the world - no digs at any specific nation there - however I challenge anyone to dispute me once they have spent at least a week or two on my soil.
There certainly are some benefits in being a long way from most of the rest of the world, and living in a sparsely populated country (by comparison with most others).
Imagine having an overabundance of free space for everyone, and living in a climate that is pleasant all year round, with the ability to look up and see stars from almost everywhere at night (very low pollution - light or otherwise). Imagine being at most a few hours drive from Beach, Snow, Forest, Mountains and Desert !
All in all this is not a tease, or a challenge, however an invitation to come and share in the bliss that is Australia - an invitation to those from this world and the next !
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Well as an insane Trek fan how could I possibly believe in anything else other than ET life.
Star Trek has offered fictional themes, technologies, and timelines that have in most part been paralleled and portrayed in real life (life immitating art) for many years now.
As such it would not seem that unrealistic that the time frames portrayed in the show could not be quite achievable - about 100 years from now we establish that there is ET life by way of first contact, and 100 years from then we are seriously exploring the galaxy and beyond.
A beacon is a great idea that has been played out in a number of sci-fi type shows. I would hope that the lessons learnt in fiction would be considered when planning what we send and say in reality.
SETI@home is brilliant! Imagine being a contributor towards "the most important discovery of mankind" (Thanks Contact the movie for that quote). Well the simple fact is I don't have to imagine it, because I, like you are already a part of it - Fantastic !
For my part, I am scanning the communications from the skies on Two IBM Netfinity Dual PIII 1GHz Servers and a P4 2.4 GHz PC in my home. This is allowing me to review anywhere up to 18 packages in a day.

Anyway, see you all at "The Forest" (those within IBM Australia will know) or at the next Sydney Trek Convention... Scotty, Beam Me Up !
