Personal background
I'm a 37 year old guy who has a fascination with space and computers. I've always been somewhat of a space buff, so when I found this site it made sense to do my best and participate. I am a systems analyst for a local hospital in my area. I'm currently running Seti@Home on a number of computer both at work and at my house. I'll continue to upgrade/add systems to the Seti@Home network I've setup at both locations as the opportunity presents itself so as to maximize my ability to participate in this exciting experiment.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
With the vast expanse of this universe, I cannot bring myself to believe that we are the only representation of intelligent life, let alone life of any sort. The odds are greatly in favor of millions upon millions of inhabitable planets similar to our own existing in the universe. Given this, I believe it is only a matter of time until we discover other life exists outside of our own little corner of space.

I do believe that humans are just becoming able technologically to detect intelligent signal coming from outside our solar system. While I participate in this project with great interest in the hope that we will find the elusive ET signal in the near future, I also think that it will be some time before humans make contact with another intelligent species. Radio is a very slow method of communication for traversing the vast distances between the stars. If there are other advanced civilizations in our own galactic neighborhood, I think that they will also have advanced communication systems based on some science we have not yet discovered to allow faster communication between solar systems than radio allows. I still hold out the hope; however, that these same civilizations will be monitoring radio emissions from nearby systems so that emerging civilizations like our own can be brought into the "galactic community".
