Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI@home appealed to John when he first heard about it in 1999 - using all that idle computer time seemed like a good idea. There was a time later when I ran climate prediction instead - now that BOINC is here we can do both!
I think a "find" by SETI would be interesting though hopefully academic; were we to find out about a culture technologically capable of meeting us, I would fervently hope they didn't find out about us. I don't rate the chances of a positive outcome from discovery by a superior civilisation highly at all!
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
