I am a United Methodist Clergy whose bachelor degree is in engineering. This kind of research is not only fascinating, but very important.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that Extraterrestrial life very likely exists. Given our present state of behavior as humans, we will likely react badly to discovering it. We don't do very well with each other who are different; how will we react to extraterrestrial life?
The benefits are immeasurable.
I do think we should transmit a beacon for others to find. The information we send, probably should include a warning that we are a very hostile life form.
I find this project fascinating. I think it very important. I am glad to be a small part of the project.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
