| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

I am not sure if ET's exist or not. If I go by my luck, they would be more like the aliens from the movie "Aliens" than the Vulcans of Star Trek. I think that we have enough electronic transmissions that this whole planet should look like a beacon from "Out There!" I run the Seti Client for a number of reasons. I use it as a benchmark for the performance of my various machines, for one thing. It is also hard for me to stop something once I start it. I guess SETI gives me a feeling that I am working on something bigger than myself. I like the idea that I am processing data from the telescope in Puerto Rico. Hopefully, if we don't find ET, this data will be useful to mankind at some future time for some reason or reasons at this time unknown to us.
