Profile: Sébastien LORQUET

Personal background
I'm a french student living in Grenoble. I study general Physics at ENSPG, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Physique de Grenoble.

My hobbies includes a lot of computer time :), principally spent to program utility software for my own use, with VB6 and Dev-CPP. I also like extending VB capabilities by writing small DLL functions in C. Currently I am programming a binary stream processor to parse MP3 files and explore MPEG blocks.

I also like electronics very much, and I am currently working on a series of electronic modules to build a totally numeric audio chain, from the audio CD/wave/MP3 to the speakers.

As one can suppose by reading the previous paragraph, I also like music very much, ranging from techno to classics; and what I like in music is the harmonic aspect, it is difficult to explain what I feel when listening to music; I always try to imagine what a sonogram of that music could be, and I sometimes see that as a picture. (no I haven't smoked anything :p )

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run Seti@Home because I have a Samsung notebook with a Centrino 1.3 GHz with 512 MB of DDR and a PC with a Duron 1300 MHz with 384 MB of SDRAM, and I find a pity that these processors are only used at a rate of 20% in normal conditions of use. I run Seti because I have computer power to offer to an ambitious project I find interesting even if I am not sure it will find something serious one day. However, some of my friends also run Seti, and it is a good mean to compare the power of our computers in a useful and realistic way !

Speaking of computer power, I do not understand why the graphic client takes 20 hours or more to complete an unit, while the winnt-cmdline client takes only 6 hours to do the same job on the same computer (with XP pro). The reason cannot be my graphic adapter that slows the process, I have a GeForce 4 MX with 64MB DDR !?!?
