Personal background
I am a 31 year old Systems Analyst for SBC/Pacific Bell. I live in Modesto, California with my beautiful wife and 5 year old son. (Yup, she really is beautiful!)

I've been working for SBC for about 6 years now and before then, I was a boat mechanic in the U.S. Navy.

I live on a property of about 4 acres and my son and I go out by the house at night with our telescope and watch the night skies for comets and planets within view. I hate to admit it, my son is quite "into" the stars and knows the constellations better than I do!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? I truly believe it does! We cannot be the only ones in the vast universe! How can people honestly believe that Earth is the only planet that could possibly sustain life?

As far as benefits of such a discovery, I couldn't really tell you. I mean we've all seen the "Hollywoodized" versions of what could happen if we did contact extraterrestrial life from movies like Star Trek to Independence Day. I do believe that if life was discovered, it would change the world for the better...as long as this life was...uh, friendly?

We should do everything in our power to find out what is out there however, we should be careful in what information we send. I think it should be along the lines of "chatting" as in, they would know someone is out there however...only generically know where they are from. A meeting should only take place after a great amount of time and effort is taken place into finding out what there true intentions are....kinda thing. I know "chatting online" and contacting intelligent life out in space isn't the same thing...but, safeguards should be in place when attempting to see what is out there.

I run SETI@home because the more people we have running this application, the more chance we have of finding life...out there. Suggestions from me about this project? You've got to be kidding....I am no way arrogant enough to believe that I could tell you braniacs how to better do your job! ;-)
