Profile: Roland Schmitt

Personal background
Hi! I'm Roland from Germany. I'm almost 32 years old, married and father of two beautiful children (two girls, age 2 and 6). By the way: all children are beautiful, aren't they? :-)
I work as a call center agent for a worldwide operating ISP, so the internet is my daily business.
My favorite hobby is - what a surprise - my computer. Travelling the internet, gaming or writing articles are the things I most often do with my machine. Beside that a big part of my life is occupated by my family - since I married and the birth of our two children my spare time decreases every day, new problems arise and have to be solved.
Our family includes two cute cats... that is the third hobby I have.
There are a few more hobbies I prefer: Going to the movies, reading good books, watching DVD in our little "home cinema", cooking and fantasy role playing games.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My first encounter with aliens was "Star Trek" or "Space 1999" in the late 70's. Although my todays opinion about these series has changed to a more sceptic view, they were the first step in a life dedicated to science fiction in all variations.
Aliens exist! There must be more intelligent life than mankind on earth. Otherwise it would be a terrible waste of space. The question is: will we ever be able to find them? So, this is why I'm runnig seti@home.
The other question: SHOULD we find other lifeforms? Sometimes mankind is so stupid that it should hurt! I believe that - should some ET's arrive one day - the aliens will turn back very fast and install a sign somewhere out in space which reads: DO NOT FEED - EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SPECIES!! :-)
Anyway, we made a first step contacting aliens by sending the Voyager probes into space. Remember STAR TREK - THE MOVIE! ;-)
