Profile: Erik Wiechers

Personal background
My name is Erik and i am a 35 year old male from the Netherlands. I work as a computer engineer at the local university which is fun to do and also provides me with lots of spare time :)
In the evening i fitness, go climbing, read, play games on the internet or just relax.
I also like woodworking which i do for about a year now which is fun to do because i like to work with my hands, it makes my life a little less abstract. I also like to watch a good movie. Snatch is my all-time favorite.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I surely believe that ET exists, with billions of stars floating around in the universe it is hard to imagine we are the only ones. But someday we will find it if we haven't blew ourselves up or poisoned ourselves. The benefits could be that we could learn from a higher race which also could be the danger. But it's a guess of course and i think we should take the chance. I believe we should transmit a beacon but it's again typically human to send information about ourselves because the chances are slim that we would have the same language, sound would be a better idea. With my contribution to SETI i hope we discover some kind of life out there....
