Profile: Alan Turk

Personal background
I live in Swindon, Wiltshire, UK. I'm 67 years old (in 2005), retired since 1996. I enjoy using my PC, currently running Windows XP Home, but using quite a number of applications from Windows 95 days (they mostly work fine but I have compatibility problems with other people sometimes). I formerly was a software engineer in the Space industry.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I think it's important that we as human beings should try to find out whether we are alone in the universe or not, just as explorers formerly roamed around the earth for similar reasons.

It seems the project is running well, even if there are no positive results as yet - it's only a matter of time! I'm just sorry the BOINC project is so user-unfriendly. The old system was simple: download the software, install it, download a work unit, analyse it, return results and download next unit - and repeat indefinitely. I realise BOINC works in much the same way, but getting it going and understanding what is happening is too complicated for most ordinary PC users.
